TaiwanJourney is an independent travel guide to Taiwan. This page explains which personal data we process, why we process it, which cookies and similar technologies we use, and how you can exercise your rights.
Who is responsible for your data
The data controller is Mario Grasso, publisher of taiwanjourney.com. For any privacy question or request, write to [email protected].
We do not have a data protection officer, because our processing does not require one.
What we process and why
1. Technical data and security
The site is hosted and delivered through Cloudflare, which processes technical data such as your IP address, browser type, requested pages and timestamps in order to serve the site, protect it from abuse and keep it available. Cloudflare may set strictly necessary security cookies.
Legal basis: our legitimate interest in operating a secure and reliable website (Article 6(1)(f) GDPR), and, where required, your consent for any non-essential feature.
2. Analytics
If you accept analytics cookies, we use Google Analytics 4, loaded through Google Tag Manager, to understand which pages are useful, how visitors move through the site and whether the site works on different devices. Google Analytics receives pseudonymous identifiers, pages viewed, approximate location derived from the IP address, device and browser information, and interaction events.
We do not use Google Analytics for advertising, remarketing or profiling, and we do not sell personal data.
Legal basis: your consent (Article 6(1)(a) GDPR). Google Tag Manager and Google Analytics are not loaded until you give consent.
3. Search Console
We use Google Search Console to monitor indexing and search performance. Search Console does not set analytics or advertising cookies on visitors’ devices. Verification is done through DNS or an HTML meta tag.
4. Your consent choice
Your cookie choice is stored in your browser’s local storage under the key tj-consent-v1, together with the date and a version number. This record is used only to remember your choice and to avoid showing the banner on every page. It is not shared with third parties.
5. Email
If you contact us by email, we receive your email address and the content of your message. We use them only to answer you and to keep the necessary record of the conversation.

Google Tag Manager itself does not normally set cookies; it loads the tags configured in our container. The only optional tag we load is Google Analytics, and only after consent.
You can change or withdraw your consent at any time using the Cookie settings link in the footer. Withdrawing consent stops future analytics processing and removes the Google Analytics cookies we can delete from your browser. It does not affect the lawfulness of processing carried out before the withdrawal.
Who receives your data
- Google Ireland Limited / Google LLC — Google Tag Manager, Google Analytics and Google Search Console.
- Cloudflare, Inc. — hosting, content delivery, security and technical logs.
These providers process data on our behalf or as independent controllers for their own services. Some processing may take place outside the European Economic Area. Where this happens, the transfers rely on appropriate safeguards such as the European Commission’s Standard Contractual Clauses or the EU-US Data Privacy Framework, depending on the provider and service.
We do not sell your personal data or share it for unrelated marketing.
How long we keep data
- Analytics data: according to the retention settings of our Google Analytics property, normally up to 14 months for event data and up to 2 years for cookies.
- Cloudflare technical logs: for the short period set in our Cloudflare configuration, normally no longer than needed for security and troubleshooting.
- Consent record: 180 days, after which we ask again.
- Email correspondence: for as long as needed to handle your request and meet legal obligations.
Your rights
Under the GDPR you have the right to:
- access the personal data we hold about you;
- ask us to correct inaccurate data;
- ask us to delete data;
- ask us to restrict processing;
- object to processing based on legitimate interests;
- receive your data in a portable format;
- withdraw consent at any time, without affecting processing already carried out;
- lodge a complaint with a supervisory authority.
To exercise these rights, contact [email protected]. We may need to verify your identity before responding. You can also complain to the supervisory authority of your country of residence; in Italy, this is the Garante per la protezione dei dati personali (www.garanteprivacy.it).
Children
The site is a general travel guide and is not directed at children under 14. We do not knowingly collect personal data from children.
