Xiangshan (Elephant Mountain)
A short but steep stair climb through jungle that ends at the classic postcard view of Taipei 101. The trail is busy at sunset, and for good reason.

The visit
The climb is short but steep, and the reward is the view that defines Taipei. Go early or late to avoid the heat and the crowds on the stairs. Bring water and take your time.

Xiangshan means Elephant Mountain, a ridge in the Four Beasts range above Taipei. The steep trail ends at the classic postcard view of Taipei 101.
Xiangshan is one of the Four Beasts Mountains that ring Taipei, and its name means Elephant Mountain. The trail was upgraded with stone steps as the view of Taipei 101 made it one of the city’s most popular short hikes.
