Miyahara
An ice-cream parlour inside a beautifully restored 1927 eye clinic, all marble, wood and stained glass. The ice cream is good; the building is the real reason to queue.

The visit
Miyahara is as much about the room as the ice cream. Sit under the old clinic’s marble and wood, order a signature sundae and enjoy the sense of occasion. It is a short walk from the station.
History and context
Miyahara opened in 1927 as an eye clinic and was later converted into an ice-cream parlour. Much of its marble and wood interior survives, making it one of Taichung’s most distinctive historic spaces.
The building was designed as an eye clinic in 1927, during the Japanese colonial period, and later served as a restaurant. Its restoration as an ice-cream parlour preserved the marble counters, wooden cabinets and tiled floors of the original clinic.
