Dragon and Tiger Pagodas
Two vividly painted pagodas rising from Lotus Pond, entered through a dragon's mouth and exited through a tiger's. The surrounding temples and pavilions make for a wonderful, slightly surreal walk.

The visit
The pagodas are playful rather than solemn, and that is part of their charm. Walk through the dragon, climb the towers and take in the views over Lotus Pond. Combine it with the nearby spring and temples.
History and context
Built in 1976 on Lotus Pond, the pagodas are entered through a dragon’s mouth and left through a tiger’s. The route is a symbolic passage from the old year to the new.
The pagodas were built in 1976 as part of the redevelopment of Lotus Pond, a site already famous for its temples. Their dragon-and-tiger entrance was designed as a playful blessing, and the towers quickly became a symbol of Kaohsiung.
