Kaohsiung Music Center
A swooping, wave-shaped concert hall on the harbourfront, designed by Manuelle Gautrand. The public terrace and surrounding plaza are a great place to watch the port at dusk.

The visit
The building is the attraction as much as the concerts inside. Walk around the harbourfront, look at the wave-shaped form from different angles and stay for a performance if you can. It is especially striking after dark.
History and context
This wave-shaped concert hall by Manuelle Gautrand opened in 2021 on the harbourfront. It anchors the redevelopment of Kaohsiung’s old port.
The centre stands in the Asia New Bay Area, a former industrial port remade as a cultural and residential district. Its opening in 2021 marked another step in Kaohsiung’s shift from heavy industry to design and the arts.
