The visit
Nanwan is the easiest place in Kenting to spend a whole afternoon. The bay is sheltered, the sand is broad and the water is warm for much of the year. Arrive early to rent an umbrella and find space.
History and context
Nanwan is a crescent bay on the South China Sea that developed as a beach resort after the war. It is Kenting’s main swimming and water-sports beach.
Nanwan was a quiet fishing bay before Kenting became a national park and a holiday destination. Its sheltered water and long sand made it the centre of the area’s beach tourism from the 1980s onward.
